In a SELFLESS act of sacrifice, antioxidants donate electrons to the PARASITE free radicals, so they won’t come after human cells. It’s a truly fascinating process! By STABILIZING the free radicals, antioxidants STOP the cycle of damage.
It’s now commonly accepted in the mainstream medical community that free radicals are the main cause of disease and aging in the human body. The free radical theory of aging is described as follows:
Oxidation damages human cells. When a cell sustains enough damage, it dies. And when enough of a person’s cells are damaged or killed, they age. Free radical damage, also called “oxidative stress” has been linked to diseases such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, arthritis, alzheimers, type 2 diabetes, and autoimmune disorders such a Graves and rheumatoid arthritis.
But what causes oxidation? There are many contributing factors. Some are unavoidable, like breathing and digestion. But others are within our control, like smoking, alcohol consumption, emotional stress, and diets high in sugars and trans fat.
Wait a minute, do you notice a connection?
ALL of these things ALSO trigger chronic inflammation!
The body produces free radicals in response to a threat. Free radicals produce oxidation. Oxidation causes inflammation. And inflammation causes damage in the body. By neutralizing free radicals, antioxidants have the power to prevent oxidation – and therefore reduce INFLAMMATION as well.
